Fitness Motivation

Para mim, não há nada melhor do que uma boa música e uma boa hora de exercício para melhorar o espírito. Mas sabemos que há dias em que a vontade é muito pouca. Há quem se inscreva nos ginásios para ter sempre uma "obrigação" em praticar desporto. Há quem tenha um grupo de amigos que se juntam para jogar futebol, ténis, squash (...) e há quem tenha um plano todas as semanas e consegue praticar desporto sem obrigações extras.
As motivações e objectivos de exercício físico variam de pesssoa para pessoa: aspecto físico, questões de saúde, perder peso, fugir ao stress, ... Mas todos sabemos que o essencial aqui é a questão da saúde e por isso é inespensável um bom exercício diariamente, nem que seja uma caminhada de 20 minutos.
Ficam aqui algumas das minhas motivações preferidas. Quais são as vossas?

There's nothing better than great music and some workout to improve our spirit. But we all know that somedays our motivation is none.. Some people sign up for a gym, so they can have an "obligation" to attend and go every week. Some have a group of friends who get together to play football, tennis, squash, ... and some have a plan for every week, where they can have a woekout (run, fitness classes at homes...) without extra obligations, like me.
The motivations and exercise goals can be diferent, from person to person: physical appearance, health issues, lose weight, be stressfree, and so on. But we all know that the key here is health. So a good daily exercise, even if it's just a 20minutes walk, it's always a great idea!
So here are a few of my favorite motivation quotes. What are yours?

Todos os anos os festivais de música apresentam o seu cartaz e este ano há muita oferta, apesar de muitos já estarem esgotados. Estes festivais são uma excelente maneira de ver os nossos artistas preferidos a actuarem num só espaço. Afinal, quem não gostaria de ver num só dia os Major Lazer, Moby, Franz Ferdinand, Ben Howard, Hot Chip, The XX, Two Door Cinema Club, Sigur Rós e os Phoenix? Eu adorava, mas ir agora a Palm Sprins ao Coachella não me dá jeito :P ... Um dia será.

Each year,  music festivals present their poster and lineup. This year there is a lot to offer, although many are already sold out. These festivals are a great way to see our favorite artists to act in one space. After all, who would not want to see in one day the Major Lazer, Moby, Franz Ferdinand, Ben Howard, Hot Chip, The XX, Two Door Cinema Club, Sigur Rós and Phoenix? I would loved it, but there's no way I can go to Palm Sprins to go to Coachella now  ... One day I will go.

Welcome December

Bem-vindo Dezembro! O mês das festas, da alegria e da família. Com um ano tão amargurado pelas notícias negativas nada melhor do que relembrar os verdadeiros valores. É um mês de enviar mensagens e telefonarmos a amigos, reunir com a família e cumprir todas a tradições culturais. Na Madeira temos muitas tradições e todas elas são divertidas, entre amigos e familiares, e com muita e boa comida. Este mês irei vos falar sobre essas tradições e trazer-vos comigo a passear pela ilha. Espero que me acompanhem sempre.

It's with a great happiness that I welcome December! The month of festivities, joy and family. With one year so embittered by the negative news, nothing is better than remembering the true values​​. This month is the one that we must send messages and call friends, gather with family and fulfill all the cultural traditions. Here in Madeira (Portugal) we have many traditions and all of them are among friends and family, and with great and good food. This month I will tell you about these traditions and bring you with me to the island. I hope that you'll always join me.

Netherlands: Rotterdam

Roterdão foi a segunda cidade que foi explorada na Holanda. Para mim é o destino de sonho de qualquer arquitecto e engenheiro. A cada esquina, um prédio chama a atenção pelos seus detalhes ainda mais estranhos do que o anterior. Mesmo assim toda esta mescla de estilos arquitectónicos funciona: desde o século XIX, como o primeiro arranha-céus da Europa - a Casa Branca - até o séc. XXI com todos os fantásticos prédios modernos. Não é por acaso que é conhecida como ‘Manhattan on the Maas’. Com a Segunda Guerra Mundial, a cidade foi bombardeada em 1940, por isso é que os edíficios da cidade são quase todos recentes. Poucos edifícios foram poupados pelos ataques. O que aconselho é que tire um dia para andar pela cidade a descobrir a magia que é a arquitectura e a engenharia. De certeza que vai tirar muitas fotografias. Não deixe de ver a Cubic Houses (Kubus woningen), Erasmus Bridge, Delfshaven e os vários museus que a cidade oferece.

Rotterdam was the second city that we explored in Netherlands. For me, it is the dream destination of every architect and engineer. Everywhere in the city, each building draws attention. The details are amazing and they are better and more original than the last that you've seen before. Yet all this mix of architectural styles, from the nineteenth century, as the first skyscraper in Europe - the White House -, to the present century, with all the fantastic modern new buildings. Well, it's the ‘Manhattan on the Maas’. With World War II, Rotterdam was bombed in 1940 which is why almost of all the buildings are recent. Only a few buildings were spared of the attacks. My advise is that you take a day to walk around town to discover the magic of architecture and engineering. You will certainly take a lot of photos. Do not miss the Cubic Houses (Kubus woningen), Erasmus Bridge, Delfshaven and the several museums that the city has to offer.

Perfect Endings!

Séries. O meu "vício" saudável desde os meus treze anos. Quem me conhece bem sabe que adoro séries e que costumo citar expressões de algumas personagens. Apesar de algumas vezes ter de explicar o que é que isso significa ou então continuar como se nada fosse. Mas quando falo com o meu primo recorremos a muitas citações que nos marcaram e quem nos ouve não entende. Já aconteceu ficarem espantados para nós, como se estivéssemos a falar outra língua. Alguma vez vos aconteceu?

TV Shows. My  healthy "addiction" since I was thirteen. Anyone who knows me well is aware that I love to watch them and that I say some expressions from it. Despite sometimes having to explain what it actually means or I'll just continue as if nothing had happened. But when I talk with my cousin we tend to use many quotes that marked us. Well, sometimes people around us don't understand it, as if we were speaking another language. Did that ever happened to you before?

De qualquer modo, as séries são muito importantes para mim. Não é por acaso que muito do que eu sei em Inglês não é da escola mas sim porque aprendi com as minhas personagens preferidas. Estas séries foram a minha companhia quando chegava a casa da escola ou então durante os meus fins-de-semana, quando estava na Universidade.

For me, Tv Shows are very important. It is no coincidence that most of what I know of English Language  I learned with my favorite characters. So yes, for many years the next list of tvshows were my teachers when I got home from school or during my weekends, when I was in University. Freaks and Geeks, The X Files, Coupling, Prison Break, 24, Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Absolutely Fabulous, Jericho, Malcolm in the Middle, How to Make It in America, Little Britain, The King of Queens, The L Word, Heroes, Kyle XY, Dharma & Greg, Ugly Betty (entre outros/ among others).

Actualmente as minhas companhias preferidas são as personagens/ The shows that I use to watch now are:  Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, The Office, Suits, Modern Family, The Walking Dead, Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Homeland, Parks and Recreation, Shameless, Once Upon a Time, Californication, Revenge, Skins, The Big C, Smash, Episodes, Happy Endings, Rookie Blue, Grey's Anatomy, The Middle, Covert Affairs, Falling Skies, 2 Broke Girls, American Horror Story e possívelmente outras que esqueci-me de mencionar. 

I can't forget mention my "guilty pleasures": The Lying Game, Gossip Girl, 90210 and Pretty Little Liars. 

Mas como é podemos esquecer os finais épicos, marcantes e emocionantes / But how can we forget  the next series finales, that were so remarkable, exciting and emotional: Six Feet Under (o melhor de sempre/ best one so far), Sex and the City, Friends, Entourage, Scrubs, Lost, That '70s Show, The Tudors, Chuck, Gilmore Girls, Alias, Will & Grace, Ally McBeal, ER, Everybody Loves Raymond, Roswell, One Tree Hill, The O.C., Smallville, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters e a mais recente despedida da família Botwin (and the most recent goodbye to the Botwin family), Weeds? We just simple can't forget it.

Muitas séries ou foram esquecidas ou nem mencionei porque de algum modo não significaram nada para mim. Esta lista também serve de link para muitas pessoas que me pedem sugestões de séries e assim é mais fácil.

Many tvshows were either forgotten or not even mentioned because somehow they meant nothing to me. This list also serves as a link to many people who ask me for suggestions of tvshows and this way is easier.

Domingo são os Emmys e claro que vou ver em directo, como já é tradição. Como podem imaginar tenho os meus preferidos e vocês?

The Emmys are this Sunday and of course I will see it live, like every year. As you can imagine I have my favorites and you? And of course, the dresses! And Jimmy Kimmel. 

From Italy with Love: Verona

Uma romântica como eu não conseguia ir a Itália e estar a duas horas de Verona e não ir. 
De comboio, em menos de duas horas, chegamos a Verona onde passamos uma tarde muito agradável na cidade de Romeu e Julieta. 
Património Mundial da Unesco, a cidade dos namorados é lindíssima. Não deixem de visitar o Anfiteatro romano, a Catedral Gótica (séc X), a Igreja românica de São Zeno, os palácios, como o Palazzo del Consiglio, o Castel Vecchio, a ponte Scaligero (1354) e, claro, a Casa da Julieta. 


Being a true romantic girl, I could not go to Italy and be two hours from Verona and not visiting it.
In less than two hours, by train, we arrived at Verona where we spent a very pleasant afternoon in the city of Romeo and Juliet.
UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city of lovers is so beautiful! While there you should visit the Roman amphitheater, the Gothic Cathedral (X century), the Romanesque church of St. Zeno, the palaces, such as Palazzo del Consiglio, the Castel Vecchio, the bridge Scaligero (1354) and, of course, the House of Juliet.

From Italy with Love: Milan

No início do ano eu e mais duas amigas voltámos a nos aventurar. Após dois anos da viagem a Barcelona, finalmente marcamos a data e fomos a um dos países que sempre esteve na minha lista de viagens de sonho. Como encontramos voos a preços de encantar, Milão foi o nosso destino. Inicialmente só associava esta cidade à Moda mas Milão é uma cidade que tem um encanto mais do que a moda. 

Earlier this year I lived another adventure with two more friends. After two years since Barcelona, finally we booked a date and we went to a country that has always been on my list of dream trips. We found great prices so Milan was our destiny. Initially I only associated this city with Fahion but Milan has lot to offer, besides amazing food!! 

Como vivemos em diferentes partes de Portugal, fazer uma viagem é a nossa solução preferida para nos encontrarmos. Não, não somos ricas. Se estiverem atentos aos sites de companhias aéreas de Low-Cost conseguem encontrar viagens ao preço da chuva. Desta vez, por menos de 50€ fomos e viemos; o que é barato tendo tem conta que só o preço da viagem de avião entre Madeira e o continente português, ida e volta, chega normalmente a mais de 100€ (e estou a ser simpática).

Because we live in different parts of Portugal, our favorite solution to get together is to travel. No, we are not rich. If you are aware of the sites of Low-Cost Travel airlines, you can find amazing prices! Trust me!!  This time, for less than €50 we bought our ticket. It was so cheap, at least I think so; the tickets between Madeira and the Portuguese mainland usually reaches more than 100 € (and I'm being nice about this price).

Para mim, o melhor desta viagem foi o nosso reencontro. Não parávamos de falar e por vezes nem ligávamos aos monumentos cautelosamente, tanto era a conversa a actualizar. No entanto em dois dias reservados à cidade não deixámos de descobrir: A Catedral/ Dumo de Milão,  as Igreja Santa Maria della Grazie e a Santa Maria Presso di San Satiro; o  Castello Sforzesco; o Parco Sempione; o Arco della Pace; a La Scala Opera; o Ticinese; os canais em Navigli; as Galerias Vittorio Emanuele II  entre outros pontos de referência. Bem, até acabamos por "passear" na China Town. 

For me, the best of this trip was our reunion. We were always talking and sometimes we didn't even paid attention to the monuments. So funny! However two days were reserved to the city and we got time to explore: The Cathedral / Dumo in Milan, the church Santa Maria della Grazie and di Santa Maria Presso San Satiro; the Castello Sforzesco; the Parco Sempione; the Arco della Pace; the La Scala Opera; the Ticinese; the water-channels in Navigli; the Gallerie Vittorio Emanuele II among other landmarks. Well, we even ended up walking in China Town.

Apesar de não ser uma cidade que entre no meu top 10, Milão é uma cidade que tem o seu encanto. De qualquer modo Itália ficou com outro sabor. No próximo post vou vos falar sobre outra paragem nesta viagem; a cidade romântica, Verona. 

Although it's not a city that got into my top 10, Milan is a city that has its charm. Anyway, I still got to see more of Italy. In the next post I will tell you about another stop on this trip, a very romantic city, Verona.
