Belgium & Luxembourg: Luxembourg

Como tínhamos aproveitado um fim-de-semana grande, o tempo era muito limitado mas tínhamos de visitar Luxembourg e foi exactamente isso que fizemos. Saímos logo de manhã de Brugges e seguimos caminho. As estradas têm excelentes condições e com algumas paragens obrigatórias, chegamos na hora do lanche à cidade de Luxemburgo 

Tenho que dizer que mal comecei a ver a cidade fiquei completamente surpreendida pela sua beleza e charme! É uma cidade cara e tivemos de pagar 7€/hora num parque de estacionamento mas como é uma vez na vida. 

No centro da cidade podemos percorrer a cidade antiga, Altstad, e o bairro Kirchberg. É realmente um encanto. 

Falar portugês num bar ou num restaurante é uma probabilidade muito grande (para nós foi de 100%) e na rua ainda chegamos a encontrar muitos portugueses, não vivessem cerca de 100 mil portugueses no Luxembourg. Para melhorar ainda a nossa experiência nesta cidade, ao terminar o dia começamos a ouvir música popular portuguesa e ali estava, bem no centro, um verdadeiro arraial portugês! Lá tivemos de ir e comer uma bifana.

Day 13 of #100HappyDays: Travel Plans

Planear a viagem de Verão, de certeza absoluta que me faz feliz! Depois de escolhido o destino, é preciso ver o roteiro que vamos fazer, os dias que vamos ficar nas cidades e marcar os hotéis. É preciso ainda ver o carro e os melhores trajectos para fazer (quase sempre é pelos mais rápidos e directos).
Ontem foi mesmo isso que já comecei a fazer. Sou fã do Google Maps e realmente o sistema está cada vez melhor e actualizado. Depois de fazer uma pesquisa por sites especializados em turismo (Trip Advisor, Lonely Planet,...), e em blogues também, é possível ficar com uma ideia de quais são os pontos principais (Cidades, aldeias, pontos turísticos) dos países onde vamos. Depois é fazer o roteiro no google maps e ver o tempo que demora de e para cada destino e fazer uma estimativa da viagem total. Ainda falta terminar muitos pontos, mas é um processo detalhado que eu simplesmente adoro e faz-me feliz. 

Planning a roadtrip is always fun and it one of the things that makes me really happy! By now, you've probably understood that I love to travel and planning it is one of the best part. 
After picking the destination, one of the most important details is to choose the itinerary,  see in which cities we're going to stay in so we can book the hotels. We also need to pick the best rent-a-car, and by best", I mean cheapest and the best roads to the trip. 
Yesterday, that was I mainly did. I'm a huge fan of Google Maps and the system is getting better by each time I travel. After doing a search in tourism's websites (Trip Advisor, Lonely Planet, blogs and others), you can get an idea of what are the main points (cities, villages, landmarks) to go to. 
After the itinerary is done, I use Google Maps to see how long it takes to and from each destination so I can make an estimation of the total trip time. I still need to finish a few details, but it's a process that I simply adore and it definitely makes me happy.

Baltic Trip: Tallinn

Provavelmente uma das cidades mais bonitas que já visitei. Depois de me ter apaixonado por Cesky Krumlov no ano passado é impossível não passar pelo mesmo em Tallinn. A capital da Estónia está situada na costa sul do golfo da Finlândia, no centro-norte da Estónia. Com 800 anos de história, há muito por explorar em Tallinn. A Old Town é incrível, com os edifícios bem conservados onde conseguimos viajar no tempo com as músicas medievais dos restaurantes locais e com as lojas com artigos antigos. É realmente um museu ao ar livre. Gostei muito. Para poder compreender e conhecer melhor a cidade, Tallinn Free Tour é a melhor solução. Em duas horas conhecemos a cidade, ouvimos histórias com muita animação e um bom humor. Fantástico! Gostei imenso desta visita e recomendo sem qualquer dúvida. 
Para jantar fomos ao Rataskaevu16! Simplesmente delicioso com excelente atendimento e ambiente! O melhor é que saímos depois das 23h do restaurante e ainda estava de dia. Isto sim é Verão. 


Probably one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Last Year I've fallen in love with Cesky Krumlov and this year it happen again. The capital of Estonia is situated on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland, in north-central Estonia. With 800 years of history, there is so much to explore in Tallinn. The Old Town is amazing, with well-maintained buildings where we can travel back in time to the medieval era, with music and food of local restaurants and shops with antique items. It's really a museum outdoors. I liked very much. To be able to understand and know the city, Tallinn Free Tour is the best solution. In two hours we explored the city, we heard stories with lots of entertainment and a good humor from our guide. She was Fantastic! I really enjoyed this tour and would recommend without any doubt.
For dinner we went to Rataskaevu16! Simply delicious with excellent service and atmosphere! The best is that we left the restaurant after 23h and was still daylight. Now, that's what I call summer!

Netherlands: Rotterdam

Roterdão foi a segunda cidade que foi explorada na Holanda. Para mim é o destino de sonho de qualquer arquitecto e engenheiro. A cada esquina, um prédio chama a atenção pelos seus detalhes ainda mais estranhos do que o anterior. Mesmo assim toda esta mescla de estilos arquitectónicos funciona: desde o século XIX, como o primeiro arranha-céus da Europa - a Casa Branca - até o séc. XXI com todos os fantásticos prédios modernos. Não é por acaso que é conhecida como ‘Manhattan on the Maas’. Com a Segunda Guerra Mundial, a cidade foi bombardeada em 1940, por isso é que os edíficios da cidade são quase todos recentes. Poucos edifícios foram poupados pelos ataques. O que aconselho é que tire um dia para andar pela cidade a descobrir a magia que é a arquitectura e a engenharia. De certeza que vai tirar muitas fotografias. Não deixe de ver a Cubic Houses (Kubus woningen), Erasmus Bridge, Delfshaven e os vários museus que a cidade oferece.

Rotterdam was the second city that we explored in Netherlands. For me, it is the dream destination of every architect and engineer. Everywhere in the city, each building draws attention. The details are amazing and they are better and more original than the last that you've seen before. Yet all this mix of architectural styles, from the nineteenth century, as the first skyscraper in Europe - the White House -, to the present century, with all the fantastic modern new buildings. Well, it's the ‘Manhattan on the Maas’. With World War II, Rotterdam was bombed in 1940 which is why almost of all the buildings are recent. Only a few buildings were spared of the attacks. My advise is that you take a day to walk around town to discover the magic of architecture and engineering. You will certainly take a lot of photos. Do not miss the Cubic Houses (Kubus woningen), Erasmus Bridge, Delfshaven and the several museums that the city has to offer.

Netherlands: Volendam and Marken

No ano passado conheci um dos países que encantou-me por completo. Fomos no Verão de 2011, o que foi óptimo pois as temperaturas estavam perfeitas para descobrir todas as maravilhadas da Holanda.

Hoje vou só vos falar de dois lugares: Volendam e Marken. 

Volendam é uma atracção turística da Holanda, pelo facto de podermos encontrar  antigos barcos de pescas e pelas mulheres ainda usarem os trajes tradicionais. Podemos encontrar nesta localidade um pequeno museu onde é contada a sua história.

Marken é igualmente turística e conhecida por ser uma ilha piscatória. Para chegarmos lá é preciso passar pela melhor estrada onde já passei: pelo meio do mar. Muito interessante. Vale a pena visitar, não se vão arrepender. 

Last year I went for the first time to a country that I completely felt in love with. We went in the summer of 2011, which was great because the temperatures were perfect to discover the breathtaking beauty of Netherlands.

Today I'll only talk about two places: Volendam and Marken.

Volendam is a tourist attraction in the Netherlands, because we can find old fishing boats and the women still wear their traditional costumes. Here we can visit a small museum where their story is told.

Marken is another tourist attraction and is also known for being a fishing island. To get there you have to go by a great road: in the middle of the sea. It's amazing. 

If you go to Amsterdam, don't forget to visit both locations. You will not regret it.
