Travel: Malaysia and Singapore (V) - Malacca

Mais duas horas e pouco de autocarro e eis chegamos a Malacca, uma terra com raízes portuguesas, com certeza! 

A estação de autocarros fica localizada na preferia de Malacca e a melhor solução foi mesmo um táxi que nos levou directamente ao Hotel Courtyard @ Heeren, que fica mesmo no coração da cidade.

Travel: Malaysia and Singapore (IV) - Kuala Lumpur

Quatro horas depois de sairmos de Cameron Highlands chegamos finalmente à capital da Malásia. Desde logo percebemos que estamos numa grande cidade, com um trânsito incrível à chegada e todos os arranha céus que contrasta com tudo o que já tínhamos visto até então. Ao sairmos da estação de autocarros apanhamos um táxi que nos levou ao hotel. O metro (KL Monorail)  é sempre uma boa solução mas naquela especifica hora tinha havido uma avaria e estava tudo atrasado. 

Ficamos hospedados no Hotel Wolo Bukit Bintang, uma unidade com camas rasteiras, ao estilo asiático, e com uma boa vista sobre a cidade. Além da excelente localização, o hotel é moderno, com fantásticas condições e uma deliciosa padaria no 1º andar. Sem dúvida que recomendo e o valor foi incrivelmente económico. A menos de 5 minutos a pé temos o Metro, táxis e uma paragem do Hop On Hop Off, e centro comerciais como o Sungei Wang Plaza, Low Yat Plaza, Lot 10, Starhill Gallery e o Pavillion KL. 

Four hours after we left Cameron Highlands we finally reached the capital of Malaysia. With an incredible traffic and all the skyscrapers that contrasted with everything we had seen before, we knew that KL was definitely a big city. After we left the bus station we used a taxi that took us to the hotel. The metro (KL Monorail) is always a good solution but unfortunately they had a malfunction that day and everything was delayed. 
We stayed at the Hotel Wolo Bukit Bintang  an Asian-style bedded room with a good view over the city. Besides the great location, the hotel is modern, with fantastic conditions and  a delicious bakery in the 1^st floor. Definitely recommend and value was incredibly economical. Near by we have the Metro, taxis and a Hop On Hop Off stop, and several shopping malls such as Sungei Wang Plaza, Low Yat Plaza, Lot 10, Starhill Gallery and Pavillion KL. 

Travel: Malaysia and Singapore (III) - Cameron Highlands

A manhã foi aproveitada para descansar e usufruir do último dia de praia na Malásia. Após um delicioso pequeno-almoço e um último mergulho voltamos para o centro de George Town, para a estação de autocarros, Komtar Bus Terminal, onde compramos um bilhete de autocarro para Cameron Highlands. Há uma carrinha que leva os passageiros até outra estação, a Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, que fica a 20 minutos de distância do centro. Daqui apanhamos o autocarro para uma viagem que durou perto de 4h30 e custou 8,60€. Como o calor é imenso a tendência é que o ar condicionado esteja sempre alto. Por isso levem sempre um casaco para estas viagens senão vão ter frio. 

After a delicious breakfast, we spent the next morning in the swimming pool of the hotel. Then we returned to the center of George Town, to the bus station Komtar Bus Terminal, where we bought a bus ticket to Cameron Highlands. There is a ‘mini bus’  that takes passengers to another station, the Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, which is 20 minutes away from the center. From here we started our first bus trip that lasted about 4h30 and cost around €8.60. Because it’s a very warm country they use a lot of air conditioning so take a jacket with you for these trips, otherwise you’ll feel cold.

Travel: Malaysia and Singapore (II) - Penang

A nossa viagem começou por Lisboa e como o voo era longo, preferimos ficar pela capital uma noite e aproveitamos este tempo para rever amigos e descansar. Como era rápido e tínhamos um orçamento a cumprir, ficamos no Lisbon Dreams Guest House. Esta Guest House é perfeita para uma visita relâmpago a Lisboa, bem central e a poucos minutos a pé do Marquês de Pombal. A decoração é encantadora e o serviço é óptimo. A repetir!

Our trip started in Lisbon and because the flight was so long, we preferred to stay in the capital one night. Perfect to catch up with old friends. We stayed at Lisbon Dreams Guest House. This Guest House is perfect for a short visit to Lisbon. It’s very central and a few minutes walk from Marquês de Pombal. The decoration is lovely and the service is great, with attention to details. Definitely a place to repeat.

Na tarde do dia seguinte, começamos com um voo de aproximadamente 5h até Istanbul (Turquia) e depois outro de 10h30 até Singapura. O serviço da Turkish Airlines foi muito bom, apesar do avião do primeiro voo ter sido mais confortável, mas isso já se sabe que é mesmo assim.
Pelas 20h locais lá chegamos a Singapura e mal saímos do Aeroporto Changi  (considerado o Melhor Aeroporto do Mundo, pelo quarto ano consecutivo) e sentimos a famosa humidade que tanto ouvimos falar mas já íamos preparados. Dias antes é importante uma boa hidratação e fazer uma alimentação muito leve. É de relebembrar que nunca é demais falar com o seu médico para recomendações personalizadas.
Preferimos usar o serviço da Uber que é mais em conta e tivemos sempre a sorte de encontrar pessoas simpáticas e prestáveis. A primeira noite foi passada na casa de familiares que nos receberam tão bem. Uma das melhores coisas de ter família que está emigrada é realmente ter "casa" em várias partes do mundo e somos muito sortudas e gratas por isso.

Our first flight was around 5 hours from Lisbon (Portugal) to Istanbul (Turkey) and then we took another one of 10h30 from Istanbul to Singapore. It's wasn't very easy, I must say, but totally worth it!

By 8pm - local time - we arrived in Singapore. As soon as we stepped outside of Changi Airport (considered the Best Airport in the World for the fourth consecutive year), we felt the famous humidity that we heard so much about, although we were already prepared. A few day before travelling it’s important to have a good hydration and a very light diet. For more details try to visit your doctor for more personalized recommendations.

We used Uber a lot. It was more affordable and we were lucky to always find friendly and helpful people. The first night was spent in our cousins’ house who welcomed us so well. One of the best things about having family abroad is to have a "home" in several parts of the world and we are very lucky and grateful for it.

Finalmente escrevo sobre "a" viagem que fiz este ano!  Tantos anos a falar sobre em fazer a primeira viagem à Ásia, e após tantos convites feitos para passar por Singapura, em Maio deste ano lá carimbamos o passaporte. 
Foram vários meses de planeamento e de pesquisa. Não, não fizemos esta viagem através de uma agência de viagem. Com a vasta informação que há online e com o valor da viagem que encontramos, não podíamos ter feito de outra forma.

O primeiro passo foi encontrar as datas perfeitas em que todos nós pudéssemos ir e marcar o voo. A nossa escolha de companhia aérea foi pela Turkish Airlines, por causa do valor e das horas perfeitas dos voos (praticamente sempre à noite). [Spoiler: Escolha certa, já que foi sempre pontual, com muita atenção no atendimento e a quantidade e qualidade de programas, filmes e séries onboard, fez com que nem se notasse tanto nas mais de 10h no avião].

O segundo passo foi escolher o nosso roteiro. Com a ajuda de sites de referência (Google Maps, TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, ...) e blogues com testemunhos de viajantes que fizeram estes dois países, a viagem começou a ficar melhor desenhada e a ganhar cor. Assim, e depois de termos tido em conta o tempo de viagem, de transportes e de visitas em cada lugar, já tínhamos o mapa definido. 

O terceiro passo desta etapa foi pesquisar o melhor hotel, atendendo, já se sabe, à qualidade/preço, e fazer a reserva. 

A partir daqui foi tudo muito rápido até que chegou finalmente aos dias viagem. Nos próximos posts vou vos relatar da melhor maneira possível os 12 dias que estivemos a descobrir os dois países da Ásia, onde a cultura e as paisagens são maravilhosamente inesquecíveis.  

Finally, let’s talk about "the" trip I’ve made early this year! I spent so many years talking about the first trip to Asia and after so many invitations to visit Singapore, last May we finally stamped our passport.

It took several months of planning and research. It was all planned by us, not through a travel agency. With the vast amount of information that we can find online and with the fantastic airplane ticket price that we found, we could not have done it otherwise.

The first step was to find the perfect dates on which we could all go and book the flight. Our airline choice was Turkish Airlines. It had a great value and the perfect hours.  [Spoiler: It was the right choice, since it was always punctual, with a lot of attention in the details and with a great quantity and quality of programs, films and series onboard]

The second stage was to choose our itinerary. With the help of the main sites (Google Maps, TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, ...) and travelers' blogs that had explored these two countries, the journey began to develop. So after we considered all the amount of time we had, the transportations and the period we had to spent in each place, we had our map defined.

The third phase was to research the best hotel, focusing, as we all know, in the quality / price issue, and then book them all.

It went by so fast that we finally got to the journey itself. In the next posts I will tell you, in the best possible way, about the 12 days that we spent discovering Malaysia and Singapore, where the culture and the landscapes are magnificently unforgettable.
