Travel: Malaysia and Singapore (II) - Penang

A nossa viagem começou por Lisboa e como o voo era longo, preferimos ficar pela capital uma noite e aproveitamos este tempo para rever amigos e descansar. Como era rápido e tínhamos um orçamento a cumprir, ficamos no Lisbon Dreams Guest House. Esta Guest House é perfeita para uma visita relâmpago a Lisboa, bem central e a poucos minutos a pé do Marquês de Pombal. A decoração é encantadora e o serviço é óptimo. A repetir!

Our trip started in Lisbon and because the flight was so long, we preferred to stay in the capital one night. Perfect to catch up with old friends. We stayed at Lisbon Dreams Guest House. This Guest House is perfect for a short visit to Lisbon. It’s very central and a few minutes walk from Marquês de Pombal. The decoration is lovely and the service is great, with attention to details. Definitely a place to repeat.

Na tarde do dia seguinte, começamos com um voo de aproximadamente 5h até Istanbul (Turquia) e depois outro de 10h30 até Singapura. O serviço da Turkish Airlines foi muito bom, apesar do avião do primeiro voo ter sido mais confortável, mas isso já se sabe que é mesmo assim.
Pelas 20h locais lá chegamos a Singapura e mal saímos do Aeroporto Changi  (considerado o Melhor Aeroporto do Mundo, pelo quarto ano consecutivo) e sentimos a famosa humidade que tanto ouvimos falar mas já íamos preparados. Dias antes é importante uma boa hidratação e fazer uma alimentação muito leve. É de relebembrar que nunca é demais falar com o seu médico para recomendações personalizadas.
Preferimos usar o serviço da Uber que é mais em conta e tivemos sempre a sorte de encontrar pessoas simpáticas e prestáveis. A primeira noite foi passada na casa de familiares que nos receberam tão bem. Uma das melhores coisas de ter família que está emigrada é realmente ter "casa" em várias partes do mundo e somos muito sortudas e gratas por isso.

Our first flight was around 5 hours from Lisbon (Portugal) to Istanbul (Turkey) and then we took another one of 10h30 from Istanbul to Singapore. It's wasn't very easy, I must say, but totally worth it!

By 8pm - local time - we arrived in Singapore. As soon as we stepped outside of Changi Airport (considered the Best Airport in the World for the fourth consecutive year), we felt the famous humidity that we heard so much about, although we were already prepared. A few day before travelling it’s important to have a good hydration and a very light diet. For more details try to visit your doctor for more personalized recommendations.

We used Uber a lot. It was more affordable and we were lucky to always find friendly and helpful people. The first night was spent in our cousins’ house who welcomed us so well. One of the best things about having family abroad is to have a "home" in several parts of the world and we are very lucky and grateful for it.

No dia seguinte, e como já tínhamos saudades e o nosso corpo já não estava tão "inchado", voltamos para o aeroporto para irmos para a Malásia (Penang). Escolhemos um voo da AirAsia onde podemos encontrar viagens baratíssimas e os aviões são surpreendentemente jovens, com música pop antes da descolagem e wifi. Com quase 1h30 de voo chegamos a Penang e notamos logo a diferença entre os dois países asiáticos. Sugerimos que seja apanhado um táxi até ao hotel já que é mais rápido e as viagens são baratíssima.

The next day we returned to the airport to go to Malaysia (Penang). We chose a flight from AirAsia, where you can find cheap flights and the planes are fresh, with recent pop music before taking off and wifi. After 1h30 flight we arrived in Penang and we noticed right away the difference between these two countries. We suggest you take a taxi to the hotel, since it is faster and they are cheap.

Ficamos em Batu Ferringhi, no Hotel Parkroyal Penang Resort, com acesso ao mar (com uma temperatura maravilhosa), piscina, ginásio, fantásticos quartos e um rico pequeno-almoço. À noite tivemos muitos relâmpagos e valentes trovões o que até foi um espectáculo bonito de se assistir enquanto sapos saltavam ao nosso lado no lobby do hotel.

We stayed in Batu Ferringhi at the Hotel Parkroyal Penang Resort, with access to the sea (with a wonderful temperature), swimming pool, gym, fantastic rooms and a rich breakfast. 

Só tínhamos um dia inteiro em Penang e com o serviço de táxis do próprio hotel, por pouco mais de 2€ a cada um, estávamos no centro de Georgetown em 30minutos. Desde 2008 que esta cidade faz parte da Unesco World Heritage Site e conseguimos logo perceber a razão. A capital é rica em história e não podemos ficar indiferentes à beleza cultural de cada rua e os seus monumentos. 

We only had a full day in Penang. We took the hotel's own taxi service to get to Georgetown center in 30 minutes, for just € 2 each. Since 2008, this city is a Unesco World Heritage Site and we were able to understand this recognition. The capital is rich in history and we can not be indifferent to the cultural beauty of each street and its monuments.

Para conhecer a cidade guiamo-nos pelo mapa da Street Art, onde procurávamos assim as afamadas pinturas que estão nas paredes na cidade que retratam a cultura local, os estilos de vida e os seus habitantes. Acabamos por almoçar num restaurante local por 2.50€ e depois fomos ao Awesome Canteen at Sekeping Victoria onde provamos café tibetano... Que melhor? 

To get to know the city we guided us by the Street Art map, where we appreciated the notorious wall paintings. They portray the local culture, the lifestyles and its inhabitants. We ended up having lunch at a local restaurant for € 2.50 and then headed to the Awesome Canteen at Sekeping Victoria where we tasted Tibetan coffee ... What a better way to end the day in the city?

Para jantar recorremos ao TripAdvisor e fomos a um restaurante perto do hotel, o Living Room Cafe Bar & Gallery, onde fomos recebidos pela simpática responsável pelo espaço que além de nos sugerir os seus melhores pratos ainda nos ajudou a marcar o autocarro para o dia seguinte e deu sugestões para o resto da viagem. Foi a cereja no topo do bolo para um dia tão memorável como aquele.

For dinner we looked up TripAdvisor and went to a restaurant near by the hotel, the Living Room Cafe Bar & Gallery where we were greeted by the friendly owner who suggested us their best dishes and still helped us book the bus for the next day and gave us suggestions for the rest of the trip. It was the perfect way end such a memorable day.
